When tying the knot, you want to choose a place that is special for you. Whether Miami is your hometown, the place where your family has deep roots or you simply love the beach and city vibe in one, it’s a perfect location for a destination wedding. So, how do you even start planning your Miami destination wedding? The Joy Wallace team has some tips after helping lots of couples plan from afar over the years:
1) Choose the Time of Year
While we love Miami year-round, if your guests are coming in from colder climates, you may want to avoid the summer heat. We think the best months for weddings in Miami are between December and February when it’s cooler and less rainy! Plus, you’ll be able to have a sunset ceremony and dance the night away under the stars!
2) Hire Your Team
Especially if you’re not hiring a Miami wedding planner, you want to choose a full-service caterer that will offer more than just the cuisine. While that’s absolutely important, in order to make planning your destination wedding easy, you want to work with as few vendors as possible. It’s fewer conversations to balance and less work for you! As a full-service Miami destination wedding caterer, Joy Wallace can help you find a venue, prepare a design and decor scheme that matches your vision (while sourcing everything for you), cultivate a colorful menu filled with your favorite flavors and make sure everything goes smoothly on the day of the wedding.
3) Find a Miami Wedding Venue You Love

When most think Miami, they think beach—but we have so much more to offer than just stunning beaches. Think dreamy architecture, romantic gardens, modern oases and more. Here are a few of our favorite venues:
Ancient Spanish Monastery | Garden Historic | Seated Capacity: 200
Paradise Plaza | Modern Industrial Miami City Views | Seated Capacity: 300
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens | Romantic Garden Waterfront | Seated Capacity: 300
4) Design a Decadent Menu
Depending on your venue, consider different menu options that you love! Do passed hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour; then, when it comes to the reception, you have a ton of options. If you want people up and moving, do interactive chef stations. For a traditional option, offer a plated meal. If your focus is on the dance floor, do a buffet for more flexibility. A few of our favorite plates for weddings are:
We customize everything for you!
5) Create a Décor Scheme That Shares Your Personality
Whether you want a whimsical soiree with pastel balloons and all the greenery or a modern fete with sleek, distressed metal accents and dark florals, décor brings the vision to life!

6) Plan Wedding Weekend Events
The best part about a destination wedding in Miami is taking advantage of this gorgeous destination! Plan a wedding welcome reception for your guests at the zen Living Sculpture Sanctuary, schedule a pre-wedding spa day in Miami Beach, then do a post-wedding brunch at The Rooftop Garden overlooking Miami for the perfect send-off.
7) Get Married in Miami!
Congratulations! Felicidades! Mazel Tov! The big day has arrived, and you’re ready to get married. Let us take care of the logistics while you have fun, sip on bubbly and dance the night away as newlyweds.
